Ad-Hoc Meeting on Digital Services Act

Published on: 23/01/2025 News

On 6 December 2024, the European Board for Digital Services (EBDS) convened in an ad-hoc meeting to discuss the elections in Romania from a Digital Services Act (DSA) perspective, in light of the declassified documents. The DSA, which fully entered into application on 17 February 2024, establishes strict rules for very large online platforms to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with democratic standards.

Key actions included a data retention order requiring TikTok to preserve relevant data covering EU national elections from 24 November 2024 to 31 March 2025. An urgent information request was also issued to TikTok following the release of newly declassified information.

The Board’s next meeting took place on 12 December 2024, where further discussions on DSA enforcement were conducted. The EBDS remains committed to monitoring compliance and ensuring that platforms meet their obligations under the DSA.
