European Commission Launches Public Consultation for GreenData4All Initiative

Help Shape Europe's Environmental Data Future

Published on: 11/02/2025 News

The European Commission has launched a public consultation under the GreenData4All initiative to improve access to environmental data across Europe. The initiative supports the EU’s twin transition to a greener and more digital economy by ensuring environmental data is more available, accessible, and reusable.

Key Objectives:

  • Enhance Data Sharing: Improve the legal framework for sharing environmental and geospatial data, aligning it with European data-sharing laws such as the Open Data Directive and the Data Governance Act.
  • Support Environmental Policy: Ensure policymakers and stakeholders can easily access the data they need for effective decision-making and environmental protection.
  • Promote Digital Transformation: Facilitate innovation and competitiveness by making environmental data more user-friendly and reusable across industries.

The consultation welcomes input from EU citizens, environmental and geospatial experts, businesses, NGOs, academia, and international partners. Stakeholders can submit their feedback in any of the 24 official EU languages until April 30, 2025.

Your contribution will shape future rules on environmental data, ensuring they meet the needs of policymakers, businesses, and the public.
