With workaround: use the portal_catalog Find Objects tab to find the folders mounted from external storage and add them to the catalog, such that the folder can be seen in it's container Plone page.
To have the folders in the separate storate indexed in the Plone site, such that they can be navigated as usual, manually compose the URL to edit the folder, edit the folder and save. This shall recatalog the element.
REsolved by adding the elements to the portal catalog, by directly entering the url to edit the element, and saving.
