Best Practice 90 - Sveriges Dataportal
Country: Sweden
Policy domain: Open data
Level of government: National
Process owners: Agency for Digital Government (DIGG)

Short description: Valuable information and data are produced, processed and shared from public bodies consisting of state authorities, regions and municipalities as well as from public companies. Sweden's national data portal promotes the re-use of data for the benefit of the entire society. The portal gathers and shares data for re-use to make it easier for users to find and explore it across sectors and domains.

The portal, launched in 2020, allows users to search for APIs, which is something that has not been possible before, and includes a section highlighting good examples of data-driven innovation in society, as well as capabilities for digital collaboration and increased interoperability, among other things by establishing a service for organisations to work with their open specifications as well as machine-readable and linked concepts.

The portal only contains information about datasets, i.e. metadata, while the actual datasets are retrieved via links for download or API requests to the organisations which are the owners of the relevant datasets. For example, the portal harvests the geodata from the Geodata portal, K-samsök (the cultural heritage portal) and the Environmental Data portal.
