Because after a certain age people have more difficulties to understand and learn new technologies and we have given possibility to learn how to learn how to access the web and communicate easier with the external world. After attending the course the participants have learned how to use different functions of a PC and INTERNET by their own (printing, scanning, e-mailing, internet search, photo manipulation). Following this courses, most of the participants have bought their first PC and have created INTERNET access in their homes. We intend to organize these courses as long as elder people are interested to learn the use of PC and INTERNET. The course had an important impact on the groups as they have wanted to created “GRANNY NET-CLUB”.

Policy Context

The “GRANNY NET-CLUB” is one of the programs of the Public Library from Gheorgheni. We are a local public library in a city of 20.000 habitants. Besides hiring books we also offer internet access, copying possibilities, cultural programs for children and adults. But we especially focus teaching elder generation (retired category) and non-workers to use a PC and INTERNET by offering them courses of different levels. Because after a certain age people have more difficulties to understand and learn new technologies and we have given possibility to learn how to learn how to access the web and communicate easier with the external world. The “GRANNY NET-CLUB” had the periodical meeting in every Wednesday the last of month, at 11 o clock. At yet we organized the programs bellow: September 24 – discussion about the programs October 29 – the presentation of the “Tatabányai NetNagyi Klub” and the www.netnagyiklub.hu homepage November 26 – the presentation of the www.webvidek.ro homepage. Virtual visitation to Rome using the Google Earth program. December 17 - the presentation of the www.msn.com homepage. Reading the letters from the “Tatabányai NetNagyi Klub”. Christmas on the Internet.
