Italy’s renewed eID system now offers access to services in about 3,300 municipalities, reports the Agency for the Digitalisation of the Public Sector (Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale, AGID).
For example, in the town of Lecce, in the Apulia region, citizens can use the new eID to contact schools, and to apply for building permits. In Florence, in the Tuscany region, eID users can apply for administrative certificates.
AGID also reports that the country’s Telecommunication authority (AGCOM) now allows the eID for log-in to their services.
Italy’s Public System for Digital Identity Management (SPID, Sistema Pubblico per la gestione dell'Identità Digitale di cittadini e imprese) is now also used by several universities. SPID-support implemented in Infostud, for example, means that some 110,000 students at Sapienza - the University of Rome - can use SPID to log in to their university’s services. SPID is also supported by the University of Turin.
