The city of Marseille uses the open source content management system Lutèce for its new website, reports Toolinux, a French news site on open source.

The web site is meant for both citizens and tourists. The city's administration will extend the site to provide citizens with access to administrative services. According to Toolinux, citizens will for instance also be able to check the status of municipal projects and to see what is on the city administration's agenda.

The implementation took about eight months, Toolinux reports. The website was built by a team of twenty web site developers and costed about 500,000 euro. The development was jointly done by the various municipal services, the city's directorate for ICT and the IT service provider Odanak.

According to Toolinux, the same CMS is also being used by the city of Paris, some of the Paris city districts, the city of Bobigny and Météo France, the French meteorological office. Lutèce was originally developed by the city of Paris and developers at the city administration continue to help develop the software.

Lutèce is published using the BSD open source licence.
