The European Commission has released its second report on the State of the Digital Decade, offering a detailed assessment of progress toward the EU's 2030 digital objectives, as outlined in the Digital Decade Policy Programme (DDPP). This year's report, a notable first, includes an in-depth analysis of national Digital Decade strategic roadmaps submitted by EU Member States, outlining their planned measures, actions, and funding to drive digital transformation.
The Commission's analysis highlights that the current collective efforts of Member States are insufficient to meet the EU's ambitious digital goals. Key areas needing enhanced investment include digital skills development, high-quality connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, data analytics by enterprises, semiconductor production, and support for start-up ecosystems.
To address these challenges, the report underscores the need for both EU institutions and Member States to increase their efforts. Achieving the Digital Decade goals in digital infrastructure, business innovation, and public services is crucial for ensuring the EU's future economic prosperity and societal cohesion.
The Commission has also updated its country-specific and cross-cutting recommendations for each Member State.
