The European Interoperability Cartography (EIC), as defined by the Decision (EU) 2015/2240 is a “repository of interoperability solutions for European public administrations provided by Union institutions and Member States, presented in a common format and complying with specific re-usability and interoperability criteria that can be represented on the EIRA”. The Decision (EU) 2015/2240 further states that “interoperability solutions and updates shall, where appropriate, be included in the EIC and be made available for re-use by European public administrations”.
The European Interoperability Cartography (EIC) implements the following:
Principles
Interoperability layers
Conceptual model
European Interoperability Cartography (EIC) implements the following EIF recommendations as explained below:
-
Recommendation 1 | Subsidiarity and proportionality
EIC contributes directly to the implementation of the European Interoperability Framework as it allows to have a list of solutions assessed as reusable and interoperable.
-
Recommendation 6 | Reusability
EIC provides a list of interoperability solutions, thus facilitating the reuse and sharing of such solutions.
-
Recommendation 23 | Interoperability governance
EIC provides a list of interoperability solutions which can be consulted by public administrations when selecting ICT solutions.
-
Recommendation 28 | Organisational interoperability
EIC presents and documents highly interoperable solutions using the EIRA framework.
-
Recommendation 31 | Semantic interoperability
Trans European Systems managed by the Commission, through the identification and elimination of overlaps and through maximizing reusability to the benefit of those using these systems, public administrations included. This could guide public administrations in establishing information management strategies.
-
Recommendation 44 | Catalogues
The EIC identifies the solutions in a common way using EIRA as a reference architecture.
