This report comes from the “Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) for Data and Services in EU Public Administrations” project launched by the JRC as part of Action 1.17 of the ISA Programme, A Reusable INSPIRE Reference Platform (ARE3NA).

The document is the final report of the project, outlining the findings, lessons learnt and expectations  in both the study for access to geospatial data and services the development and trials of the AAA Access Management Federation (AMF) Testbed.

The main content of the report includes a summary of the reviewing of access standards, technologies and best practices. It also covers the testbed development, implementation and trials, including details of the software stack being used. As well as highlighting progress in this topic and some limitations uncovered by the work, the report highlights a series of recommendations and open issues.

Better access to data is fundamental to research and decision-making. Where access control is needed between European organisations, the practical and fully-functioning technical solution developed through ARE3NA can help to stimulate discussion with INSPIRE stakeholders and other communities and make choices to address barriers to interoperability in Europe.
