Barcelona City Council has released DECIDIM, an online platform aimed to increase Barcelona citizens’ level of engagement in the political and legislative-making process through the creation, implementation and test of e-participation and e-voting procedures that will allow them to get and share information, to create an active and dedicated community and to express their opinions and/or to vote on local issues involving the government of the territory where they live. The final goal is to demonstrate that participation to local political initiatives and elections can be increased by making it simpler through the development and use of digital devices designed by placing citizens at the centre of the process.
