The Local Catalog of Open Data (LKOD) is an application that allows you to create, read, and modify catalogue records of open data. The application uses forms from the national catalogue, with which it is integrated, and each published dataset is automatically published in the national and European catalogues. LKOD is open source, meets the open formal standard of the Open Data Catalog Interface, and web accessibility guidelines according to the WCAG standard.
Our solution was developed in cooperation with experts from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance and Masaryk University. The local catalogue is now operational for the City of Prague, where it is used by 23 organisations. Currently, other organisations are implementing it for their own needs.
We are developing LKOD agilely and testing new changes with users. Users can also make suggestions for product development, either by email or by directly entering an issue into Gitlab. We are developing a product that makes publishing datasets easier and more efficient.
The potential in the Czech Republic is more than 6,000 municipalities that can use the catalogue. In addition, ministries, regions and other government organisations can use the local catalogue. Implementation is currently underway in several regions and the Ministry of Education.
The users are primarily clerical workers and it was designed to make their jobs easier. That's why we made sure that the UX and so on followed the accessibility rules. Our vision is that the local catalogue will be part of a national cloud where institutions will contribute their developments.
