European Commission and Open Source Observatory at Paris Open Source Summit
The European Commission's Open Source Observatory (OSOR) will hold a two-hour session at the Paris Open Source Summit dedicated to security and national policies on the use of open source software in public administrations. First, the EC representatives will present the EU-FOSSA initiative that aims to improve the security of the open source software in use in EU institutions and proposes several novelties including bug bounties and hackathons to achieve it. Following the presentation, open source experts representing private and public sectors will share their experience on the latest trends and challenges around security for open source software.
The second part of the session will begin with the presentation of the ongoing work on the new Commission Open Source Strategy, which will be a starting point for a panel discussion on the main challenges faced by public institutions using open source software. The panel will bring together experts from France, United Kingdom, Sweden, and Portugal as well as the EC representatives who will discuss and share the successes and shortcomings of open source policies and strategies from the perspective of different sectors. The discussion, moderated by the OSOR, will aim at bringing out the essential elements of these policies and strategies, and agreeing on a common approach to increase their potential.
This session will take place on 5 December 2018, from 14:00 to 16:15 in Studio Photo at LES DOCKS DE PARIS – 50, av. du Président Wilson 93200 La Plaine St-Denis.
