This document shows how to create Page Models for a portal instantiated from jAPS2.0.

This document is for those who are preparing to develop a new portal using jAPS2.0. So the recipients are experts in graphical interfaces for Web and Java developers.

In order to take maximum advantage from the present document, it is necessary to have basic knowledge about: (X)HTML, CSS, and XML, as well as to use the development environment, as explained in other guides.

A Page Model is a summary of the characteristics of a Page.

When you create a page is associated to a model, then customize the properties and you configure the specific Showlets for the page.

The two souls of a Page Model are the XML and the Markup. The configuration of the XML defines the positions of Showlets that from now on call Frames, the Markup in the jsp defines the graphical aspect.

You can create different Page Models, for example one for the Homepage e one for the Internal Page of the Portal.

First we have to decide the structure of our site, this means to determine the positions of the default Showlets and to provide empty spaces for other Showlets.

If we assume that they have called our portal myportal, we have the Database myportalPort. We need to configure the Page Models in the table pagemodels inserting:

Code, column code

must have the same name that you give to the corrisponding jsp.

Must be meaningful to make immediate understanding when creating the page.

Configuration, column frames

XML with a list of numbered Frames. The numbering of the positions should start from 0 and follow orderly.

Important in the Page Models differents from the Homepage, remember to set one of the Frames with main="true". This allows you to locate the favorite position in the page where you publish a content.

As we see in the example, for each Frame can configure:

Once we have established what we want to see in the page and in what order, we must decide how to make it in the markup preferred language.

In the folder WEB-INF/aps/jsp/models we create with the name of the jsp code given in XML,

To define the inclusion of a Showlet in jsp we use the tag: <wp:show frame="0">

For the graphical aspect we need to create .css files in the folder resources/static/css. Is usually to create two Style Sheets, one for Layout definitions, called general.css and placed inside a pagemodels folder, and one for a style that generally called mioportale.css.

In this example we see a Homepage made up 15 Frames numbered by 0 to 14. We have some default Showlets: the Search Form, the Breadcrumbs, two menu, the Last News and the Last Events while all the other positions are free. In particular we see that the menu located in the first box of the first column was configured to disply all the children of the Homepage, the menu located in the Footer was configured to display the page with the Site Map and the Contacts page.

In this example we see how to include the Showlets in the Markup. In order: the Search Form and the Breadcrumbs which have been included inside the div, respecting the position given in the XML, in the 0 and 1 Frames. After three div to identify three columns, in which it was decided to include four positions in the first column, five in the second and three in the third. Finally, a div for the Footer that contains the last Frame number 14.

In this example we see a page made up of 12 positions, numbered from 0 to 11. We have some default Showlets: the Search Form, the Breadcrumbs and two menu, while all other positions are free. In particular we see that the menu positioned in the first box of the first column, was configured to display all the children page of the Homepage, the menu positioned in the Footer was configured to display the Site Map and the Contacts pages.
