The main improvements will be found on those pages that concern projects, software and communities. The software pages, for example, will make it clear to visitors where to download the software application and how to join its development project. Project pages will on the other hand, like the homepage, become simpler.
We will be displaying less content, cleaning up the current clutter. And the new lay out will bring Joinup in line with other websites published by the European Commission.
Consistent
Joinup is using the open source content management system Drupal. The code for the current website is available at Joinup itself. The code is published using the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2.
The next version of Joinup will also improve 'search' and we're doing that by improving our use of Apache's Solr. Instead of the current two separate search engines, after the update Joinup will use only Solr. This should result in consistent search results, regardless of whether the simple search or advanced search is used.
The Joinup platform aims to help improve interoperability; the exchange and use of information of Europe's public administrations' computer networks and applications. It offers practical support for the development of software, semantic assets and their communities.
We'll continue to add new services and enhance the overall usability of the site in the future. In other words: work on improving Joinup will not stop. Naturally, we want to hear from you what you think of the changes and we always welcome new ideas. So, please, use the contact form!
