The Information Mediator is a reusable digital component developed by the Irish government's Digital Services Unit (DSU), operating under the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO). It is part of a suite of Building Blocks with compatible, reusable software components, developed to help Irish government departments and public service bodies build and run online services more easily.
Its primary purpose is to provide a core interoperability layer enabling government applications across EU Member States to exchange data and interact securely. In doing so, it supports Ireland's implementation of the EU Once Only Principle, by which citizens and businesses provide information to public authorities only once, rather than repeatedly. It is described as a key enabling component for two flagship Irish digital government services: the Life Events service (providing citizens with seamless, joined-up access to public services at key moments in their lives) and the Government Digital Wallet (a secure mobile application for storing and presenting digital credentials such as a driving licence or European Health Insurance Card).
It is released under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL).
