The EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) is supporting the implementation of the European Digital Identity Framework by developing a candidate European cybersecurity certification scheme for EU Digital Identity Wallets. This work follows a request from the European Commission under the Cybersecurity Act to support the secure and trusted deployment of digital identity wallets across the EU.
In April 2026, ENISA launched a public consultation on the draft candidate certification scheme. The consultation gathered feedback from stakeholders to validate the scheme’s structure, principles, and key elements.
In parallel, ENISA is providing targeted support to Member States on national EU Digital Identity Wallet certification schemes. ENISA has signed a 1.6 million € Contribution Agreement with the European Commission, funded under the Digital Europe Programme to support the development, roll‑out, and implementation of national certification schemes. Member States should provide at least one certified EU Digital Identity Wallet by the end of 2026.
Through this work, ENISA continues to contribute to strengthening cybersecurity in the digital identity ecosystem and supporting the secure uptake of EU Digital Identity Wallets across Member States.
